La Charité-sur-Loire has been a Book Town since the year 2000. There are roughly fifteen bookshops as well as book art and craft workshops all established in the historical part of the town : a true delight for book lovers. Each bookshop has its own specific fields : antique books, old documents, book binding, calligraphy or parchment-making workshops.
There are two important book markets each year, one in spring and the other in summer. The markets are held in the streets around the priory and bring together around fifty booksellers from all over France.
This new centre of interest attracts tourists from France and abroad, and has become an invitation to visit this historical town on the river Loire.
