In
the secret town of La Charité sur Loire,
a monastic city originally founded by a Benedictine
abbot from Cluny that has, in recent years, become a
“ Book Town”, there is a lot to discover
: the heritage officially recognized by UNESCO, the
numerous bookshops, not forgetting the natural environment
- forests, vineyards and the wild river Loire. Pilgrims
on the Route of Santiago de Compostela used to stop
over at La Charité sur Loire to make the most
of « la charité des bons pères »
(the good fathers’ charity), a name that has been
kept by the people of La Charité sur Loire. They
have also kept the art of living and the tradition of
hospitality inherited from the Benedictine monks. |
